Spain's
architectural legacy is unique, a treasure-trove of information
about Spanish culture. Your students will explore the
major styles of architecture in Spain, including classical Greek
and Roman, Muslim, Romanesque, Gothic, Mudéjar,
Renaissance, and Baroque to
the modern styles of Antonio Gaudí and the Guggenheim Museum.
Emphasis is on how each style reflects the culture of the time,
and what each has contributed to the current culture.
This unit is not
only valuable in and of itself, but it also serves as excellent
PR for your program for both students and parents. Your
students from other levels will ask about the pictures on the
walls, and will be very intrigued by the projects - especially
the tiles - displayed in your classroom. Parents will be
impressed by the knowledge their students take with them to
their lives outside the classroom!
Your materials
include a detailed lesson plan, copy-ready student packet,
supplemental materials, copy-ready tests, a board game and a
Power-Point presentation. (Your unit also includes
resources for images of sites, which cannot be included due to
copyright.) The materials are written for Spanish 4, and
are easily adaptable to other levels.
